This painting took a little longer than I originally planned so you’re getting this post a day late but it’s worth it I swear! See how tasty these donuts look! I had to wait a while for the watercolor to completely dry so I could use paint pens to add all the delicious decorations on top. Yum. Honestly, working on this painting really made me crave a donut and it was through sheer willpower that I didn’t go out and buy any. Like always I’ll share the guide video at the bottom of the page. Enjoy!

I know I say this about all my watercolor paintings but I couldn’t believe how fun this was. I actually thought this would be a much harder painting than the others I’ve done but it was really easy and I highly recommend this as one of the first paintings you try. I actually used my lower quality paper because it was smoother and the closest I had to hot pressed paper. It worked out surprisingly well, probably because you don’t really have to do washes for this painting. I even struck out on my own and attempted to make a white powdered donut using white gouache! I actually think it looks pretty good. I didn’t at first. I had just the white on there to begin with and it was just a flat disc that looked like a C.D. but then I added some light gray watercolor to give it definition (honestly I had no idea what I was doing) and luckily it worked out. It was a mess to work with though. The water from my brush kept pulling up the white gouache and making a mess. Luckily the nature of powdered donuts is to look messy so it worked out. Let me know if you try to make your own donuts!
This is lovely! I can see how the powdered sugar one would be hard to get right. You did a fantastic job!
Thank you very much! I’m glad I persevered because although the powdered sugar one gave me the most trouble, it’s also the one I’m most proud of!
Yum! Makes me want a donut! I think the blue sprinkle donut is my favorite.
I was craving donuts for a whole week after painting this!
