The End of Summer

I have been inspired for a while to mix my watercolor paintings with my writing. So I gave it a try! I’m someone who looks forward to the cooler weather and I love all things fall. The end of summer is one of my favorites times. Both poems today are centered around this transitioning time period, where the days get shorter and cooler, leaves paint the sky in crimson and orange, and rain taps the window while you drink hot cocoa. I hope you enjoy my painted poem!

Jumping on a trampoline in late summer

On a cool night where the crickets chirp

Under the long strands of field grass.

Reaching for the stars with our hands, as we lay

Down on the slick polyester

And tell ghost stories until we are too tired,

Nodding off under the soft moonlight.

The poem Fall Days with small watercolor paintings of a pumpkin, cocoa mug, blue scarf, red leaf, autumn tree, a mushroom, and an acorn.

Fall Days

Putting on a scarf and hat, I wrap myself

Until I am snug and warm. I take my

Mug outside with me on my walk,

Placing each foot in front of the other.

Keeping the trees on my right, I follow the path

Into the forest, listening to the soft whistles of the wrens

Nearby, thinking of the jack-o-lantern I will carve later.
